Boy Scouts of America, Troop 56 was founded in 1936 at St. James Lutheran Church in Pohatcong Township, New Jersey.

Originally, Troop Meetings were held every Thursday night but were later switched to Wednesday nights so that all the leaders could attend the monthly Boy Scout Round Table meetings. At one point, the Troop temporarily stopped meeting but resumed again in 1973.

Over the years Troop 56 is proud of all scouts past and present, but we are especially proud to have 18 Scouts attain Eagle Scout status, beginning with our first Eagle Scout, Paul Bobcock ('63).

Today, the Scouts and Scout Leaders of Troop 56 are very active in scouting and community service activities. Over the years, our scounts have attended events such as Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, Canadian Canoe Trip and hiking the Adirondack High Trail.

In 2001 and 2005, Troop 56 Scouts and Scout Leaders attend the BSA National Jamboree. In 2007 we also attended the 21th World Scout Jamboree in England. In 2002 and 2004 the Troop went to the BSA Florida Sea Base and in 2006 the Troop attended the 44th Scoutmaster’s Council Camporee held at West Point.

Scouting for Food, Monthly camp outs, Boy Scout Summer Camp, and the Klondike Derby are just some of our regular yearly events.
